These are some samples from Lexmark X1130 scanner. All were taken with Xsane and default values. Kooka is not capable of scanning but a small portion of the page (changing paper size does not solve anything).
Ive included a sample taken with Window$ drivers to compare (color and B&W at 600 dpi). Click on the image to see original file.
Im not sure if it matters, but all samples were made with Slackware Linux 11 (not the Window$ samples, obviously) and latest stable (or almost) versions of xsane and kooka.
Color
With window$ drivers at 600 dpi (6.5 MB)
With xsane at 75 dpi. Colors are somewhat distorted (too red), but the image quality is quite good (141 KB).
Xsane at 150 dpi. Better quality, but same problems with colors (545 KB).
Xsane at 300 dpi (2 MB).
Xsane at 600 dpi (6.5 MB)
At 1200 dpi, the resulting images are streched (not visible in the preview), but this only happens when you select color scanning. In B&W it is OK also at 1200 dpi.
Another minor bug is that the head doesnt reach the end of the surface. In A4 size it lacks about 2 cm at the bottom of page.
Now and then you can see some bands in the image, but I guess it is due to some reflection during scanning, as it happens with brilliant papers , both in Linux as in Window$. It needs further investigation.
Black & White
Windows drivers at 600 dpi Gray (3.4 MB).
